Manage AC and DC power systems and supervise one Power Systems Technician. Manage and plan the growth of the power network including large UPS systems, -48 volt DC power systems, AC UPS inverters, and emergency backup systems. Provide planning and engineering for the power network growth and equipment replacement, initiating audits, and maintaining an accurate view of all components of the power network at all times. Design capacity augmentations or upgrades, produce detailed Engineering Design Packages, keep current all power systems records.
Key Result Areas – Major Areas of Accountability
Responsible for ensuring AC and DC power capacity is available where needed throughout the network and ensuring the reliability of the power network. Power network includes large UPS systems, -48 volt DC power systems, DC/AC inverter systems, and facility 208v/480v commercial power. Includes designing network capacity augmentations and upgrades, producing detailed Engineering Design Packages, obtaining vendor quotes, procuring equipment and design and engineering services, keeping power records current, and monitoring project expenditures. Projects will cover entire U.S. network.
Review and analyze capacity, maintenance, and power systems performance data on a quarterly basis and report results. Formally monitor results over time to look for trends, initiate corrective action or procedures as necessary.
Engage with vendors and acquire the appropriate technical support and information to meet the needs of Power Engineering. Identify and provide any tools or processes that will be beneficial. Be able to react quickly to changing situations and provide solutions to both internal and external customers. Existing vendors include Marconi, Leibert, and Argus.
Manage the existing power equipment inventory. Leverage existing resources to meet network needs and ensure warehoused batteries are properly maintained.
Supervise one Power Systems Technician. Perform managerial tasks including performance evaluations, goal setting, administrative duties, and communication and enforcement of all company policies.
Support other engineering departments with their day to day power needs including assigning AC UPS and DC power circuit breakers, engineer and review wire gage for cable runs, monitor existing plant capacities, and provide technical support for custom designs and maintenance activities.
Develop and publish power technical specifications, procedures, and methods of procedure as required to support installation, maintenance, and the reliability of the network.
Interact with the Sales, Sales Engineering, Inside Plant, and Network Engineering groups to provide timely and cost-effective solutions.
As the network is compromised of different vendors, ensure the our Network Control Center can monitor, and to the extent possible communicate directly, with all power systems via telemetry, modem, or ethernet capability.
Proactively promote the Power Engineering department and provide content and updates to the Power Engineering Intranet Web page and provide training seminars and materials to the Field Operations group as required.
