GLOBIX EXPANDS ITS GLOBAL STREAMING MEDIA CAPABILITIES
THROUGH STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH LONDON-BASED SIMPLYWEBCAST
New York — October 9, 2000 — Globix Ltd., a subsidiary of
Globix Corporation (NASDAQ: GBIX), and the newly launched new media arm of Corporate Television Networks,
Simplywebcast, have teamed up to provide businesses a fully integrated, end-to-end
streaming media service, the companies announced today. The strategic alliance unites
premier live-event production services from Simplywebcast, a leading Webcasting
production company, with back-end broadcasting services and infrastructure from Globix, a
leader in managed Internet Data Center services, high-speed Internet access, and streaming
media solutions for business.
As television and the Internet converge, the market for streaming media in Europe will grow
substantially. This alliance will bring together the communications and production expertise
of Simplywebcast with the technical know-how and wordwide Internet resources of Globix to
provide a single, fully integrated solution in this growing market. The alliance includes the
purchase by Globix of an equity stake in Simplywebcast. Terms of the deal were not
disclosed.
Under the agreement, Simplywebcast will provide digital production and encoding of live
video and audio for events such as investor presentations, company product launches and
internal communications, as well as for broadcast markets such as radio and television.
Globix, one of the leading providers of streaming services in Europe, will provide the
applications hosting on its infrastructure to Webcast the media streams across its global
Content Delivery Network for live or on-demand viewing. Globix deploys servers
internationally across its 32Gbps backbone network to broadcast the streams to end users
around the world.
Both Globix and CTN are pioneers in the streaming media industry, and their alliance will
create a powerful force in the still-emerging European streaming market. Globix has
provided global streaming media solutions for companies such as Microsoft, Cisco Systems,
ITN and VH-1, and has Webcasted live events such as the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday
pageant and Paul McCartney’s concert at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
CTN pioneered the development of satellite-delivered business television and has become
an award-winning provider of visual communications to business. It was instrumental in
developing some of the first U.K. Webcasts, including the online announcement of the BP /
Amoco merger in 1997. Today CTN, through Simplywebcast, is a leader in this field,
producing Webcasts in support of investor relations, marketing and consumer
communications for its blue chip clients, as well as major sporting events.
“As broadband and streaming media continue to become more widespread, companies are
demanding quality Webcasting services from a single-solutions provider,” said John Moore,
Globix UK general manager. “This partnership is a beachhead for Streaming Media efforts in
the United Kingdom, portending a new level of customer options for streaming media
solutions.”
Stephen Watson, managing director of CTN, said: “Our Globix partners are worldwide
leaders in sophisticated streaming media solutions and Internet services. Simplywebcast is
recognised for its award-winning production and communications expertise. Together, we
intend to provide a level of experience, talent and resources unmatched in the industry.”
An alliance briefing will be Webcast tonight, Monday, 9 October, 2000, at 15:00 BST.
