Globix will convert a Tribeca warehouse into a 193,000 – square foot Internet hosting
facility. The new data center is expected to open in the first half of 2001.
New York — NY, Internet World Fall 2000 — October 27, 2000 — Globix Corporation
(NASDAQ: GBIX) today announced the commencement of construction on a new
SuperPOP Internet Data Center at 415 Greenwich Street, in the Tribeca district of
New York City. The new 193,000-square foot facility is expected to begin providing
Co-Location, Web Hosting, Access and Application Services in the first half of 2001.
Globix currently has five SuperPOP facilities operating in New York City, Santa Clara,
Calif., London, Atlanta and McLean, Va. Five more, including the Greenwich Street
site, are in the development and planning stages worldwide. The new data centers
will increase the Globix gross data center space to more than 1.4 million square feet,
from 289,000 gross square feet today.
Like the existing New York Data Center, the new Globix SuperPOP (Point of Presence)
will provide dual connections to the area’s power grid, redundant Uninterruptible
Power Supply (UPS) systems and back-up generators, 24 x 7 x 365 on-site
monitoring and technical staffing, advanced biometric security and redundant
temperature-control and fire-suppression systems.
“As companies have realized the cost benefits of outsourcing their Internet
applications, we’ve witnessed tremendous demand for our managed Internet Data
Center services. We are building more data center space to help us capture this
demand in one of our core markets,” said Marc H. Bell, chairman and CEO of Globix.
“The downtown location of our new SuperPOP in New York is consistent with our
goal to provide corporate customers with easy access to our facilities,” said Marc
Jaffe, chief operating officer of Globix Field Operations. “Convenient locations, plus
business-support amenities built into each of the Globix SuperPOPs, enable our
customers to be more productive with their time and resources. This continues to
distinguish Globix in the market, and has been a real advantage in winning new
business.”
