Work as part of the Network Engineering team in developing transport capacity solutions for the Globix network. Generate written engineering documentation to support the installation and configuration of SONET and optical transport equipment. Engineer other aspects of the telecommunication network including synchronization and timing, fault alarm telemetry systems, and data communications networks.
Key Results Areas – Major Areas of Accountability
Develop network solutions, in conjunction with other Globix organizations, that satisfy the customer and network demands and meet financial requirements.
Generate Globix Engineering Design Packages (EDP) for new network builds or augmentations. Includes engineering the following: equipment placement and card allocation, network flow schematic diagrams, optical loss budgets, equipment provisioning information, data communications network connectivity, network timing and synchronization, equipment and cabling lists.
During the creation of the EDP, review current inventory levels and potential reused equipment to utilize in current and future projects. Identify shortages to appropriate groups for reordering.
Publish EDP’s electronically and maintain in both paper and electronically for our Engineering records. Review as-built documentation and update records accordingly.
Review and provide guidance on fiber test data to ensure that the fiber used will be appropriate for the application.
Provide detailed support and technical expertise concerning the operation of the SONET and optical transport networks. Participate in developing network designs and solutions. Provide technical support to Equipment Installers and Network Testers as required.
Maintain and update engineering records of the network including network maps, databases, optical schematics, and wavelength plans.
Provide technical support to sales and sales engineering associates when required. Understand technical issues and the implications on the business and be able to communicate them with other operating departments within the business.
