According to Leigh Newsome, Chief e-business Applications Designer, “Digidesign needed a world-class data center with strong managed services to deliver our Web services to customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.” Digidesign’s uptime criterion was stated to be 99.9 percent.
Mr. Newsome had visited more than 11 major data centers in the San Francisco Bay area and was close to choosing a managed hosting provider when he found Globix. He visited the Globix SuperPOP in Santa Clara, California and came away impressed with the fit between Digidesign’s requirements and Globix’ capabilities. Within weeks of contacting Digidesign, Mr. Newsome made the decision to locate Digidesign’s web platform in the Santa Clara facility. Presently, the original 12-month contract signed by Digidesign has been renewed twice.
Globix provided Digidesign with a cost-effective and fully managed Web hosting solution. It included all of the components that Digidesign required, including one cabinet to house their three servers, 5 Mbps of bandwidth on the Globix backbone network and round-the-clock management of their hardware and software infrastructure. In addition, Globix provided daily backups of the Digidesign site, Oracle database support, streaming media, and security services.
Digidesign has reported that the Globix solution allows them to provide their customers with enterprise web applications and an on-line store that is running all year round. They also report increased on-line sales and enhanced customer satisfaction. As for the 24×365 requirement, Mr. Newsome remarks, “Globix has allowed us to reach that level of performance and exceed the level of expectation that customers expect when using our on-line e-business applications.”
