GLOBIX HISTORY

Globix was founded in 1989 as a reseller and systems integrator. By 1995, the company recognized the enormous potential and growing business demand for Internet services and solutions, and began to implement a strategy to provide both Internet access and facilities-based Web hosting solutions.

After an initial public offering in 1996, Globix began the early development of its Internet business model and expanded to offer Internet access and Web Hosting solutions. Leveraging its considerable experience as a value-added solutions provider, Globix was able to provide customers with an end-to-end solution, enabling them to effectively utilize the Internet as a business tool. By 1997, Globix was recognized as one of the leading Internet solutions providers in the New York regional market serving major national and international corporations, local businesses and Internet start-ups.

In 1998, Globix embarked on a global growth strategy that included the construction of a high-speed, fiber-optic backbone network connecting three advanced SuperPOP Internet Data Centers in New York, Santa Clara and London. These were financed through a series of bond, public and private offerings and began serving customers in the summer of 1999. This construction increased the total Internet Data Center space to 289,000 gross square feet.

The spread of broadband technologies and the cost benefits of corporate IT outsourcing continued to drive the rapid expansion of the Internet services market – and the demand for Globix premium-quality services. An $80 million investment by private equity firm Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst, along with the sale of $600 million in 12.5 percent senior notes, provided the capital for Globix to broaden and enhance our network both geographically and capacity-wise. Globix upgraded its U.S. network to an OC-48 optical ring, purchased a 1,625-mile STM-16 ring in Europe, and opened new POPs during 2001.

As advances in technology are changing the way businesses communicate, Globix is leveraging its infrastructure to develop and support application services that appeal to broad audiences. Globix Streaming media appeals to companies as a viable and economical way to bring events such as concerts, keynote addresses, corporate presentations and stockholder meetings to large and widely distributed audiences. Globix E-mail messaging services encompass a sophisticated, high-performance outsourced messaging infrastructure that enables businesses to manage the technological complexities associated with messaging and stay competitive with the latest features, while simultaneously reducing costs and easing IT burdens. And finally, in response to demand for content distribution from the edges of the Internet, the Globix EarthCache Content Delivery Network is the first CDN of its kind to be developed by an Internet backbone provider and ensures that high-quality content is delivered reliably and quickly, directly to end-users.
