Globix Provides Integrated Streaming Media Solution for Indy 500

NEW YORK – May 13, 1999



NEW YORK, NEW YORK-May 13, 1999 – Globix Corporation (NASDAQ: GBIX), a leading provider of Internet connectivity and sophisticated Internet-based solutions for large and medium size businesses, was selected by the Pep Boys Indy Racing League (IRL) to provide an integrated streaming media solution to cover practice, qualifying and carburetion day leading up to the Indy 500, one of the world’s most spectacular racing events.

Starting Saturday, May 15th through Thursday, May 27th, Globix will provide a turnkey streaming media solution to help the IRL deliver the online broadcasts of the Indy 500 pre-race events to racing enthusiasts around the world. The first practice session, on Saturday, May 15, will be broadcast from 12 noon ­ 7 pm. From the 16th through the 21st, practice will be broadcast from 12 noon ­ 5pm. Qualifications/Pole Day will be covered on Saturday, May 22 from 9am ­ 11am and Qualifications/Bubble Day can be seen on Sunday, the 23rd from 11am ­ 12noon. On Thursday, May 27 fans can watch Carburetion Day/Practice from 12 noon until 2pm. All listed times are EST. All of these activities can be viewed on the Internet at www.indy500.com .

The IRL turned to Globix because of the Company’s ability to deliver an end-to-end streaming media solution. For the pre-race events, Globix will provide the on-site production as well as the hosting of the streams from Globix Corporation’s media servers and provide the bandwidth necessary to accommodate thousands of simultaneous viewers. Globix will encode the broadcasts exclusively using Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) latest streaming media platform, Windows Media Technologies 4.0, and will enable users with 28.8 Kbps and 56.6 Kbps modem speeds to view the broadcasts with optimal clarity.
