GLOBIX BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF SAN FRANCISCO
FACILITY
Internet Service Provider Signs Lease for Internet Data Center in “Silicon
Valley”
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, August 6, 1998 – Globix Corporation (Nasdaq:
GBIX) a leading provider of total Internet-based solutions for
businesses, has signed a 15 year lease for a building now under construction
in the heart of “Silicon Valley”, Santa Clara, California. Completion
is slated for December 1998. The building has been designed to Globix
specifications, with engineering that includes custom electrical specifications,
atmospheric controls and enhanced security systems. It comprises 60,000
square feet on two floors, with one floor housing the new West Coast
SuperPOP data center and the other providing space for sales and administrative
personnel.
In addition to the specialized hardware for Dedicated Access to the Internet,
the new SuperPOP will include ample secure space to house servers,
racks and cages for Web Hosting and Co-location customers. Moreover,
it will provide disaster-recovery flexibility and site-mirroring capabilities
for the ever-growing number of companies that are finding the World
Wide Web to be a vital business tool. Like the New York SuperPOP,
the Santa Clara SuperPOP will offer the latest systems and network
management facilities, as well as 24 x 7 monitoring. The new data
center will allow West Coast companies to use Globix to help
them leverage the Web as an irreplaceable marketing tool for attracting
and maintaining customers and to put the Internet to use to facilitate
corporate communications and for other mission-critical applications.
The signing of the lease and the construction of the building mark
the beginning of a planned major expansion for Globix. Because
of the rapidly growing Internet needs of businesses in the area, Globix
is establishing a strategically important West Coast presence with
the installation of the state-of-the-art SuperPOP. “We selected Santa
Clara because of the concentration of high-tech companies with tremendous
demand for the comprehensive array of services that Globix
provides. Globix has a complete range of Internet services
and the expertise to put them to work for these technology-savvy companies,”
said Globix President and CEO, Marc H. Bell.
“Silicon Valley companies need the extraordinary availability, reliability
and redundancy that have been a hallmark of Globix in New York,”
continued Bell. “Globix has already become a premier Internet
Service Provider for businesses in New York City. Now, the addition
of the West Coast SuperPOP will greatly expand our reach. This is
another in a series of planned steps which continue to position Globix
as a major force in the Internet industry.”
