Globix and Cisco Work Together to Offer End-to-End Networking Solutions

Cisco Powered Network to Deliver Advanced Networking Services to Globix Customers in New York

New York, – July 13, 1998Globix Corporation and Cisco Systems, Inc. have announced that they are combining efforts to offer Internet access to large and medium-sized business customers in New York.

With a Cisco Powered Network, Globix offers customers reliable, secure and high-performance Internet services. The relationship highlights the focus of both Globix and Cisco on using intelligent broadband IP networking to deliver enhanced connectivity and network-based applications.

“Cisco shares our vision that the IP network is the foundation for delivering intelligent business solutions, providing our customers with strategic competitive advantages,” said Marc H. Bell, President and CEO of Globix. “By working with a leader such as Cisco, we can bring advanced, differentiated networking solutions to market quickly.”

Globix uses Cisco 3640 routers and Cisco IOS™ software to provide Direct Access to the Internet. Globix Co-location service makes use of Cisco Catalyst Switches and Cisco 7500 Series routers. In addition, Cisco LocalDirector is used for customers who subscribe to Globix Web Hosting. DistributedDirector will handle traffic load distribution between multiple geographically dispersed servers as the Globix network expands globally. Intelligent routing decisions are made courtesy of Cisco 7500 and 7200 Series routers. Clusters of 7200 Series routers provide effective traffic aggregation and quality of service management. A near-term upgrade to the high-performance Cisco 12000 Series gigabit switch routers (GSR) is planned. The Cisco Catalyst 5000 Switching Systems are used to perform underlying layer 2 switching. “Cisco equipment will continue to play a major role in the rapid growth of the Globix network. It is critical to maintaining the exceptional reliability our customers have come to expect from Globix,” said Bell.

“Cisco’s high-performance, reliable networking solutions enable service providers to offer consistent services,” said Don Listwin, executive vice president of Cisco’s Service Provider Line of Business. “The Globix relationship with Cisco will enable Globix customers to be confident that their service provider will deliver a high level of network interoperability and performance, as well as new, advanced, and differentiated services.”

In the Cisco Powered Network Program, Globix will provide services based predominantly on Cisco equipment and software. The Globix participation in the program – including use of the Cisco Powered Network logo to brand its services and marketing support materials – demonstrates the ability of Globix to provide innovative services and industry-leading technology solutions.
